Janggi

Point count

Every KJA rule still stands, but a game that would end level on the move limit, a double pass or repetition is awarded instead to whoever has more material.

What is different here

Janggi draws a great many games, and a tournament needs standings. This preset prices the pieces and counts them.

Chariot 13, cannon 7, horse 5, elephant 3, guard 3, soldier 2. Generals are not counted. Cho’s total gets 1.5 added — a bonus fixed to the seat that moves first, and a half-point, so the two scores can never come out level.

Bikjang and insufficient material are still plain draws. Everything else — setup, moves, checkmate, the checking-repetition loss — is unchanged.

  • All KJA rules apply unchanged; only the drawn endings are treated differently.
  • The 120 half-move limit, a double pass and repetition are decided on points instead of drawn.
  • Chariot 13, cannon 7, horse 5, elephant 3, guard 3, soldier 2; generals count for nothing.
  • Cho’s score is increased by 1.5, so the two totals can never tie.
  • Bikjang and insufficient material remain draws, and so does a draw by agreement.
